Veteran Manx Journalist Terry Cringle had his wish granted on a calm June evening when he was taken out to the Tower of Refuge by 4x4.

Terry Cringle visiting the Tower of Refuge

Just months earlier, Terry had commented in his regular column in Manx Tails, that his Christmas wish was to get out to the Tower of Refuge. Luckily, Tower Insurance’s Richard Hulme read the plea and put wheels in motion to make it happen, along with Douglas Borough Council and Douglas Coastguard.

“As sponsors of the Tower Insurance, Tower of Refuge Walk it seemed obvious that we should do what we could to help Terry in his quest to visit the Tower.” said Richard.

On the 15th June, whilst doing a preliminary visit of the Tower ahead of this years’ annual Tower of Refuge Walk being held on Sunday 12th August, the organisers took a detour via Terry’s house to collect him and drive him out across the sand.

Terry got to spend an hour out at the tower before returning to the safety of shore.
