Tower Insurance - Tower of Refuge Walk 2024
Tower Insurance are proud to have supported one of the biggest events in the Isle of Man social calendar - The 2024 Tower Insurance Tower of Refuge Walk. The event is a walk out to the Tower of Refuge in Douglas Bay (at low tide) built by Sir William Hilary Founder of the RNLI. Particularly important as 2024 is the 200th Anniversary of the RNLI which was founded here on the Island by Sir William Hilary.
Tower's offices face the Tower of Refuge on Douglas Seafront and we have supported this annual event for over a decade which is a huge fund raising and educational opportunity for the local RNLI on the Island each year. This year more than 3000 people made the trip out to the Tower at the spring low tide.
Douglas City Council have produced a fantastic leaflet to commemorate the 200th anniversary and gives a great insight to the history of Sir William Hilary and how the RNLI started and the history of the Tower, from which our business is named after.

Following the walk, at nightfall, a small tribute was made at the statue of Sir William Hilary on Douglas Head, situated at the spot where he used to stand 200 years ago watching the ships come into Douglas Harbour, facing Conister Rock on which the Tower of Refuge is built.
Representatives from Douglas RNLI, Douglas Coast Guard, Tower Insurance along with the Major paid a tribute, with a fantastic light show over Douglas Bay to mark the legacy of a remarkable man.
A huge thankyou to Oliver Cheshire at Douglas City Council, Douglas Coast Guard and of course the volunteers of the Isle of Man RNLI stations.
